Description

In 1863 during the American Civil War, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote a heart-wrenching poem pleading for “peace on earth, good will toward men.” Over a century later, his plea still rings true. This arrangement emphasizes the power of those seven words.

This is a harp duo arrangement of John Baptiste Calkin’s hymn setting, composed in 1872. Intermediate harpists will find it easy to play, with some minimal practicing for pedal changes. There are many harmonics, which are doubled by the natural pitch an octave higher, to evoke bells ringing. It is written in the original key of Eb major, with a key change to E major.
